Hidden Arizona Mining

Three graduate students, two mining towns, and one project.

For our Journalism Skills course, or, as we all fondly refer to it, “Bootcamp,” we have taken on the task of investigating how mining has evolved to survive since Arizona’s founding.

Superior, Arizona is a booming town, and has survived their mines closing and reopening, without turning to “Old-West” tourism.

Goldfield, Arizona, formerly Youngberg, is a well-loved and rebuilt Old-West tourist town.

Two very different stories, each a part of Arizona’s colorful history. We look forward to sharing our written and audio pieces with you!

Check out our map below to find our three work locations!
